4 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR JEWELLERY LAST LONGER
1. Last on, first off. Put your jewellery on after perfume, deodorant, and lotion — the chemicals in them can dull the finish over time.
2. Skip the salon spray. Keep your pieces away from hairspray and nail polish remover, which can leave a film and speed up tarnishing.
3. Holiday-ready. Take your jewellery off before a swim, and avoid sun tan lotion and body oils while wearing it — chlorine, salt, and oils are hard on metal and stones.
4. Clean it gently. Use the polishing cloth that came with your piece. For a deeper clean, a little mild dish soap in warm water and a soft brush is all it takes.
HOW TO STORE YOUR PIECES
1. Keep them separate. Store each piece in a jewellery roll, case, or box so they don't scratch or tangle against each other.
2. Beat the humidity. In damp weather, tuck a small packet of silica/desiccant crystals into your box to reduce tarnishing.
3. Cool, dark, dry. A cool, dry spot away from heat keeps both metal and stones at their best.
4. Out of direct sun. Prolonged sunlight can fade certain gemstones — amethyst, rose quartz, chalcedony, and smoky quartz can all pale over time, so store them away from windows.
